The 3-2-1 concept is pretty simple. All of your files need to be backed up on 3 different devices, 2 on site and 1 off site. This is where a Network Attached Storage (NAS) device can be immensely helpful. With a NAS you can automatically back up your data at your office and off site on a daily basis.

If something were to go catastrophically wrong, you need to have one set of data, off site. How you backup your system may depend on more than just what to back up, but rather how much you want to pay for this insurance policy and what you feel comfortable with. There are two basic options here, an off site storage device such as a NAS or the cloud.

Air-Gap, means not connected to the internet, and the only way to make something truly immutable. Download your practice management software, accounting, images etc, and put them on a removable hard drives. The cost is minimal for good removable hard drives, and a bit of time. Cheap compared to what you would pay if the worst was to happen.
