Siligent in the lab

Testing with Dexis from Ka-Vo

With degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Computer Science, I get excited (probably more than most) about the latest server hardware, or researching the latest GPU. And before I sell any hardware, I work hard to test it in the lab and ensure my clients have a smooth transition.

In testing the DS-1 server with Dexis 10.1.6.3 Imaging Software from Ka-Vo, I wanted to test the storage and retrieval times to ensure it works for a practice. The server is set up in a high availability cluster, which you can read about in my previous blog.

To test the software and hardware in the lab, we took 5 photos using Dexis on a client computer using the DS-1 set as the server target. We took some fabulous multi-angle shots, saved them to the server and immediately pulled them back up on the client, just as you would in your operatories.

“This performs the way I would want it to at the office.”

Speed like that can affect your bottom line and the sanity of your staff! In testing data storage and retrieval with Dexis and the DS-1, I am looking for the speed of the retrieval. I was pleased the photos were available just after I closed the image capture window and remained crisp and responsive through the process. The hardware had no problems with any of the photos, including moving them around, modifying, enlarging or shrinking them. Overall data storage and retrieval from the server was extremely quick, and I confirmed this desktop server can handle Dexis and whatever Ka-Vo can throw at it.

One of the benefits of using a Siligent-designed architecture is that all of your data is stored in the high availability cluster. It will always be available, even if you have a storage failure in one of the two nodes. If you have been taking intraoral photos all day, you know your data will be there at the end of the day, and the next time the patient comes in for a follow up. Call us now to set up your Siligent-designed hardware that can handle Dexis from Ka-Vo, or any of the latest dental equipment software.
