Cyber Espionage… a new era

A few weeks ago the New York Times’ newsletter included a piece on Pegasus. It’s a tool created by the Israeli government and used by government agencies and terrorist groups to track people via their phone. Pegasus differs in that it allows groups to gain access to a phone and all of the information on it, including location and data without clicking on anything. There have been assassinations attributed to Pegasus, and currently, Israel keeps the software on a pretty tight leash…or so they say. Right now the US has a copy but apparently is not using it, and those who have access are, as far as we can tell, not using it for monetary gain. Its like a 007 movie in real life.

I’m not writing this to scare you, but to make you aware that we are entering a new era of Cyber attacks, the technology now exists to do real damage across all computer infrastructure. It’s a mindset change as threats no longer come from events ruining physical infrastructure, but rather through attacks when your system and data are connected to the internet and data infrastructure. As we move things to the cloud our security needs become more complex. You need data located in multiple locations, but protecting it is getting more complicated.

I truly believe that one of the only ways to ensure data is safe is to remove it from the network. That is just one part of the Data Security and Practices plan you need to put into place. It takes a team to do it well, but with the right partners, it's a manageable task we can accomplish together. Reach out to learn more about protecting your valuable data.
